Deep blood red, almost black at the core. A bouquet that is almost crammed with enticing aromas, displaying an amalgam of complex smells. Blackberry nip, kirsch, cola, mocha and vanilla. A solid wine with that heralds typical Barossa-like dense fruit with balanced but opulent mouth coating tannins. There is plenty of depth and mid- palate richness to see this wine live in optimal cellaring conditions for 15+years.

Wine Advocate – 98 Points
The back strapping 2005 Shiraz “House Block – Rare” is purple/black in color. It reveals aromas of cedar, wood smoke, cassis, blackberry, and blueberry compote. Full-bodied, thick, and rich, this opulent wine is nearly over the top. Intense, powerful, and very long in the finish, it can be drunk over the next 10-12 years.

Wine Spectator – 93 Points
Lithe and focused, layering its black cherry, plum and dark spice flavors on a polished frame, the tannins beautifully submerged to let the fruit and savory notes sail through the finish and keep singing. Best from 2009 through 2015. 1,473 cases made.

International Wine Cellar – 93 Points
Opaque ruby. Explosively perfumed aromas of exotic boysenberry, cassis, graphite, floral and spicy vanillin oak. Concentrated kirsch and dark berry preserve flavors are given a pleasingly bitter edge by sassafras and licorice, with a late note of floral pastille adding complexity. Finishes sappy and remarkably persistent, with a strong impression of boysenberry. This took 18 months to ferment, was raised in 100% new Taransaud barriques and finished at, get ready, 18.2% alcohol. Yes, it's big and ripe, but there's not an obvious heat issue. A pretty remarkable effort.
